ABOUT US |
Dale Mathers formed Coastline Automotive in
1995 in Tauranga on the east coast of the North Island of
New Zealand as a specialised automotive workshop catering
for vintage racecar fabrication and Mustang restoration
and USA sourced parts importing. ![]() In mid 1995 Coastline Automotive imported a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang with the help of USA contacts. This was a two owner California car that required repainting and a light restoration. This car won many 'Peoples Choice' and Best American' trophies at local car show events. The following year a '65 A code Mustang fastback, along with many parts, was imported and built into a Shelby clone for vintage racing. It's first event was a car show where it won first place as 'Best American', a win before it had even got onto the track. This car went onto a successful racing career and won the historic class and was placed very high overall (9th) in the 1998 New Zealand Targa Rally.
From the late 1990's due to New Zealand's more buoyant economy, requests for particular rarer and more desirable Mustangs, has seen Coastline Automotive source and import a number of early Shelbys and recently a Boss 429.
As the 'baby boom' generation continues to age, the demand for classic and vintage Mustangs remains strong and continues to form the majority of Coastline Automotive's projects. |
